With dear brother Massood Taj, sound healer and community organizer.
Dear Ones,
As I write this message, the relentless sound of a river gushing through the rocks massages my arteries. In this moon of Tevet when we deal with all our responses and composting of irritation, frustration, and even rage, we are compelled to remember the womb, as the prophet Habakuk reminds us.
I’m apparently close to finding a land of refuge to build a humble casita walking distance to a river. My other standard for a good quality of life was to have at least three people - walking distance - who I enjoy their company, and they mine. Neighbors who can support and celebrate each other. It is a long way from the original dream of 30 neighbors, but hey, I’m going to be 60 this February, and can’t wait much longer.
So, an old friend, whom I have known since 1998, has offered me a little plot of his recently purchased land to build my humble abode. This is good news! Now come the agreements and the win-win conversations, before beginning to build.
In spite of all of this personal news, the human world is driving our mama earth crazy. Poli -crises in many realms, wars, climate catastrophes, racism, classism, antisemitism, islamophobia, bullying, harmful competition, and a system that doesn’t support cooperation. Grief and frustration still grab us by their habit. Our compulsion to get entangled in old patterns of behaviour. Our neihbors voice irritates us, our friends political stance exasperates us. The choices people make around us annoy us.
So what to do with all of this? How to make anger serve our evolution? In a voyage in cooperation with all beings in the hoop of life, ecological poetry, land-based stories, and humus-informed humans.
